Pretentious, overprices and not BYO. Tucked into the back blocks of Macquarie University, this obscure restaurant charges Cockle Bay prices. I’d made the mistake of visiting their web site for out of date information on the menu and the wine front.
The restaurant presents well, demure lighting and comfortable appointments. The problem started with the selection of entree’s which was explained as ‘ we change the menu every 3 month’ well why don’t you change your web site as well ? Heard about false advertising ? And I was really looking forward to the herb gnocchi, instead, I had the chicken and walnut fettuccini for $12.50 and my lady had the seared scallops on seaweed and spinach for $15.50. Bothe quite nice but the fettuccini would have benefited from a tad more cream in the sauce to lighten it up. And $15.50 of 5 tiny scallops ? The bun fight over the wine left us with a Jacobs Creek 2002 Cab Sav for $35.00 but they didn’t have the 02 so we had to settle for the 03. Mains, having been assured the scotch fillet was the highest quality, we ordered 2, both medium rare. The internet said chips and salad, we got seared beans, snow peas and the odd bit of broccoli, with things that looked like chips, but grandad could have sucked through his false teeth. They were fried mash ? The steak while cooked well, was pretty crappy quality. And only $24.50.
$113- for a very ordinary meal is a disgrace, and this was very ordinary. Life’s too short to pay for a substandard experience like this – please, only eat here once you’ve eaten at every other restaurant in Sydney.
